Our Mission
Approximately 50 percent of Haitian children do not attend primary school, while roughly 80 percent fail to reach secondary school. More than half of Haiti’s population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25 per day, making Haiti the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The earthquakes have devastated the infrastructure there and the country is trying hard to recover, however, children often do not have any access to routine health care. Less than 20% of the population has access to health care in their community and the majority of resources available are concentrated in larger cities. This situation deprives remote areas of the structure to ensure the provision of even basic health care to the population.
Health education is neglected causing most people in Haiti to be unaware of the existence of modern medical treatments. The mode of transmission of contagious diseases is unknown to most of the population. Concepts such as oral hygiene do not fit into a significant number of the population’s everyday routines. Even the easiest-to-treat diseases are commonly considered evil spells (Voodoo spirits) thrown by enemies or envious neighbors.
The mission of the Christian Haitian Heritage Foundation (the Organization) is to make the gospel of Jesus Christ a living experience by helping the children of Haiti and providing formal education and health services to these unfortunate Haitian children. The Organization wants thoroughly equipped every Haitian with Judeo-Christian values and education that builds knowledge and character so that they will grow to be useful citizens of their country and the entire world. A team of volunteers composed of religious leaders, teachers, physicians, nurses, and IT professionals has joined together to make this a reality with the goal of the Organization. The Organization will run the following programs:
Education
The Organization would like to create school programs in Haiti that teach children, in grades K-12. The Organization intends to create classes and a curriculum that would meet the minimum standard required by the local education authorities. It will also include additional enrichment activities (technology, sports, chess, etc.) to deliver a well-rounded program. The Organization will recruit certified local teachers and provide additional training to them. Volunteers from the US will also be recruited to teach these children. Any child who is not enrolled in a school will be eligible for admission to the classes. Students will be provided with school supplies and a free hot lunch each day. 50% of the Organization’s time will be spent developing an educational system for these children in the hopes of giving them the opportunity for a better life.
Health Care
The Organization would like to provide mobile clinics in hard-hit and poor areas of the country to provide outpatient medical care, including preventative and curative care. The Organization would also like to raise awareness, educate, train, inform, and reduce the prevalence of transmissible diseases. Local staff will be trained and the Organization will also rely heavily on volunteers to provide these medical care services. The Organization will provide medications and vaccinations as needed. These services are open to any child that needs them. 35% of the Organization’s time will be allocated to training and the provision of health care.
15% of the Organization’s time will be spent on administrative activities including fundraising, travel to visit the programs, and recruiting volunteers. The Organization’s Board of Directors has deep roots in Haiti and is committed to ensuring the success of the future of Haiti’s children. A Board member will make periodic onsite visits to each school and/or health care clinic to ensure the stated goals are being reached efficiently.
The Organization hopes to fund each activity through fundraising, including mail solicitation, email solicitation, accepting donations on its website, and hosting fundraising events.
